Useful info

Alcamo is a municipality of 45,985 inhabitants in the province of Trapani in Sicily. Alcamo is located on the border with the province of Palermo, at a distance of approximately 50 km from both Palermo and Trapani. It stands at the foot of Mount Bonifato.

The municipal territory today extends over an area of 130.79 km2. To the north it is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea, it borders to the east with the municipalities of Balestrate and Partinico, to the south with that of Camporeale and to the west with those of Calatafimi-Segesta and Castellammare del Golfo. Its most important hamlet is Alcamo Marina, which is about 6 km from the city centre. Alcamo is located in the center of the Gulf of Castellammare, 258 meters above sea level. and is located on the slopes of Monte Bonifato, a limestone complex that reaches 825 meters above sea level, and which above 500 meters hosts the Monte Bonifato Nature Reserve.

The climate is temperate and the central position with respect to the Gulf of Castellammare offers views characterized by magnificent horizons, which are even easier to see from Mount Bonifato. The surrounding countryside offers a splendid landscape of rolling hills full of vineyards and in Alcamo marina it is still possible to admire the sand dunes. The co-presence of city, mountain, countryside, beach and sea makes the Alcamo area full of naturalistic alternatives.

Outside the town, but still within the municipal territory, heading towards Palermo you come across the Calatubo Castle, a fortress built in the early Middle Ages.
